Herbalism is a decent way, in my opinion, to make gold. It received a boost in its gold making potential when Wrath was released since Inscription requires herbs. Herbing can take a while to do, which is both good and bad. Good because a lot of people who don’t have a lot of time to play or just don’t like gathering herbs will just go straight to the Auction House for the herbs they need for Inscription and Alchemy. And yes, the time requirement is of course bad because if you have an herbalist you’ll be the one collecting herbs!

If you are looking for the best Herbalism routes to follow, which you should because it will save you a lot of time, then you should take a look at the routes found on this site in the 1-450 guide. It is a 1-450 leveling guide but by using it you’ll be able to see where certain herbs are and the guide only lists the best zones for herbing in based on the ones that seem to have the most herbs. Also, if you don’t already have the Gatherer addon I suggest you get it because it will show you all the places you’ve collected herbs from before and can be very useful when going back to zones. Before you set out and get to collecting be sure to check the Auction House on a regular basis and determine what herbs are actually selling good on your server. I know it may be easy to collect a bunch of low level herbs like Silverleaf and Peacebloom but if they aren’t hot sellers it might be a waste of your time to do. A sure bet with any gathering profession, Herbalism included, seems to be gathering the highest level items. So, for Herbalism this would mean collecting herbs like Icethorn, Lich Bloom, and really any Wrath of the Lich King era herb.

The downside of collecting high level herbs is that this is usually the strategy that a lot of WoW players choose, so if you are on in peak hours you may find that zones are being picked pretty clean. If this seems to be happening to you try to find off hours to play or collect lower level herbs that appear to be selling well on the Auction House. Always remember that people still need lower level herbs for things like leveling up their Alchemy and Inscription or even for crafting things for their alts.
