I’ve written this guide to provide a bit of information about how to make the most gold with Mining. Mining is a really popular way to make gold in WoW and is often referred to as one of the best ways to make gold when you are leveling a character up. I also agree with that and think it can also be a very good way to make gold at high levels. The reason Mining is so good to make gold is that ore or the bars smelted from ore are used in Blacksmithing, Engineering, and Jewelcrafting. Of the players that have those professions there are a lot that have actually disbanded Mining at some point and solely rely on buying their bars or ores off of the Auction House. Sure Mining can take a while to level up but it really is a good way to make steady amounts of gold, as there is always a demand for ore and bars on the Auction House.

There are basically only two ways to make gold with mining:

Smelting
Mining

Smelting

Smelting refers to smelting ores into bars and selling them on the Auction House. Technically, as long as your Mining is high enough, you don’t even have to actually go out and mine the ore yourself. If you find a good enough deal on the Auction House you could buy cheap ores and smelt them into bars that are selling well on the Auction House.

A good example of something you could do without going out and Mining is buying the mats for Titansteel and smelting it whenever your cooldown is up. There is still a pretty strong demand for Titansteel in the game right now and if you don’t feel like buying the mats you can always farm them or simply advertise and sell your cooldown to someone in need of some.

Now aside from Titansteel, if you are going to sell bars on the Auction House I suggest you really look into what is selling well on your server’s Auction House before you decide to smelt your ores to bars because sometimes ores actually sell better.

Mining

Mining ores and selling them on the auction house is maybe the most basic way to make gold with Mining but it will take a while to actually go out and mine. The best way to go about Mining for gold is to get the Gatherer addon which will track where you mine and using a good Mining map that someone has already put together for your use. The one I linked at the top of the page is really good for pointing you in the direction of where to mine high level ores.

Now if you are actually going to set out and mine to make gold you should really, as always, take a look at your Auction House to see what is selling good. I mean you may be able to mine a ton of Copper Ore but if it sells for almost nothing a stack it may not be worth your time unless you are already in a low level zone leveling. Some sure bets for mining in the game right now are Saronite and Titanium.
